The following is where the work stands now after rehearsal sessions held in May and November 2010. This is the raw list:

Working Outline for February 2011.

(Whale Optics will be in 3 parts, and we will work on getting very far along on Part 1 in February, the idea with Part 1 is to layout all the ideas, charachers and information clearly but cleverly - 

PART #1: INTRODUCTIONS

On stage is a Map of the world made from colored cables. This is what the audience sees when they enter the space. Soundscape of the ocean, whale songs, many layers of phone calls, internet traffic, modern world, and so on, builds and they calbes get pulled tight to create the 4 lines running up a wall, which is Roger’s station at the Avalon Fiber Optic station (where optic lines arrive all the way from europe).

PROLOUGE A: ROGER
Scene 1 Avalon Station (SAGAN on TV) present day
Roger arrives at work, makes coffee, plays

Scene 2 Porch at Home (HAWKINS on TV) Noon, present day
Roger arrives home to have lunch on the porch with his mother

Scene 3     Avalon Station (THE OPTICS) 9pm, present day
Roger brings his date back from Applebee’s to see his workplace and he           explains the ‘Optics’

PROLOUGE B: AKIRA
Scene 1 PechaKutcha, (JAQUES COUSTEAU)  LA 8pm, present day
Akira comes onstage to give his 6 minute Pecha Kutcha presentation 

Scene 2 Martini Club, Silver Lake, Echo Park, LA11pm, present day

SCENE VENICE BEACH record shop (done in fluid sunshine/probable way ((( why the hell did I write this - mayve akira found a record of the humpbakc whales in the record shop, that is what starts it all, this is nice, then this scene could be a flashback - put roger as the dude on rollerskates with the guitar.  ))). The waves maybe? 4am tokyo time call. 
Scene:  maybe akira jones is based on mario, so he is a dj and dj. Como mario.    
Akira in 405 traffic listens to radiolab program on lynn cox. And then we see it. It is that simple. Starting from his car.  And there she is sittingnext to him. In traffic. In her swim suit and diving cap. 

PROLOUGE C: LYNN
Scene 1 Flying Fish Market (yellow jacket movement sequence)
Scene 2 California Coast (Grayson Radiolab Story)
Scene 3     Akira hearing that on the radio in traffic. (accidental inspiration)

Scene 4.     LAX airport security (dance sequence)

ACT I: BAHIA SOLANO

Scene 3.     Dialouge on Boat. Dude swims off. Lights from dock.
Scene 4.     Shacking up with qeequeg.

ACT II: INTERROGATION
Scene 1.   Us customs and sagan hawkins visit, hawking destroyes voyager 77. 

INTERVAL that is Intermissiom 2

Akira is sick from the water in colombia.  He goes to the doctor. All of antarctica is the hallucinations from his fever.

ACT III: Roger or someone explains the story of hearing the first Whale Songs - maybe roger As Sagan.
